Zakynthos Airport “Dionysios Solomos” (ZTH) sits on the plain behind Laganas Bay, 5 km south-west of Zakynthos Town and within walking distance of Kalamaki beach. The runway ends at the edge of the bay, which is a National Marine Park: the beaches beside it are the Mediterranean’s most important nesting ground for loggerhead turtles, and the airport keeps its operations to daytime and evening hours partly for that reason.

Around two million passengers a year use the single terminal, almost all of them British, Italian, Polish and German holidaymakers between May and October. Fraport Greece rebuilt the building in 2020–2021 with arrivals and departures on one level; the taxi rank and car park are outside the doors, and there is no bus.

Transport

There is no airport bus on Zakynthos: it is taxi, pre-booked transfer or hire car. Zakynthos Town is 5 km and about €15, Laganas and Kalamaki are ten minutes and €10–15, Tsilivi about €25 and Alykes about €40.

Parking

One open-air car park beside the terminal, from about €3 an hour or €10 a day, used mostly by islanders: visitors leave by coach, taxi or hire car, so a space is rarely a problem.

Car rental

Rental desks are in the terminal with the cars beside it, and with no airport bus a hire car doubles as your transfer. Zakynthos is small but its best sights, the Navagio viewpoint, the Blue Caves and Keri, are at the end of long, winding roads.

Local tips

There is no airport bus. Do not wait at the terminal for one; either walk 15 minutes to the main road at Kalamaki for the KTEL, or, with luggage, take a taxi or the transfer you booked.

The runway ends at Laganas Bay, a loggerhead turtle nesting beach: landings and take-offs stay clear of the night hours, so a “late” Zakynthos flight is rarely later than 23:00.

Kalamaki beach is a fifteen-minute walk from the terminal. A delayed departure is better spent there than in the hall; leave the bags at check-in first.

Changeover days are Saturday and Tuesday for the British packages. Three hours before an afternoon departure on those days; two is enough otherwise.
